For the Love of Halloween

My dear friend Scott Lenig wrote a guest post for us.
Scott lives in the South-West of the USA.
Enjoy his description of Halloween in the USA, right from the keyboard of a true Halloween lover.

Can you feel it? There is something spooky in the air. That spooky feeling is only aided by the constant gray of the sky and trees slipping into dormancy as the leaves brown and fall to the ground, almost as if nature wants to take part in the spookiness that is coming.

This is a time of year I get so excited for. Halloween time! Now, I admit, I am unsure just how popular Halloween is in other countries, but here in the US, it is one of the biggest holidays of the year, rivaling only Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This time of year, scary movies play non-stop on Television. Haunted House attractions pop up seemingly over night, with people lined up around the corner, ready for a good scare. Spooky decorations line the houses and special stores open out of no where just in time to sell you the latest gory and bloody props, costumes and make up. Read more…

Read more…

History of Halloween (5)

Costumes

Some of these Halloween costumes just scare me.
When my son was younger, about 5 years of age until 9 years of age, we used to live in a little settlement in Berlin. 78 houses – so it was kind of a little village in the huge city.

Soonish the neighbors decided that the children should play “Trick or treat” on Halloween – actually we didn’t have such a tradition at that time.

It worked well for the kids, they collected tons of candy which were supposed to last until Christmas, but with the help of mom and dad we always managed to “kill” them much earlier in time.

The kids just stood in front of the door, shouted “trick and treat” at us, but I bet they never had a plan if I wouldn’t have given them candy.

Most of the costumes have been very scary.
My son made me sew him different scary costumes. One was with a skeleton on it, we used an old T-shirt of his dad to do it. I also sewed a habit to dress him up as the Grim Reaper, we used to craft a scythe or tieing a rope in a special way.

The background behind all the costumes was: They were supposed to be scary.
Usually no little charming princesses or funny clowns on Halloween – those costumes you will see at Carnival.
But you can meet a bloody mummy. Read more…

Schrift der Woche (4) – Halloween

Happy Halloween

Font of the Week (4) – Halloween

Happy Halloween

Are the invitations for the Halloween Party already send out?
If not, you might get inspired by some Halloween fonts.

I won’t go that much into detail with the Halloween fonts.
The purpose for these fonts is to have some spooky or decorative ones for invitations or posters.
All of them are not suitable for mass texts

You might want to use them for headlines too.

All in all – they are fun to watch.
