Add the right Tag and save Space
When browsing the blogs of some of my fellow bloggers, I see now and then blog homepages with large and extended posts. Actually the whole blog post appears on the very first page, followed by the similar extended previous blog posts.
When the blogger allows the last 10 posts on the 1st page it makes a long way to scroll down to reach the bottom of the page.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel!
The wonderful programmers of WordPress – and I bet those of other blogging software too – have thought about it and added an option to the format tags to reduce the posts on the homepage.
You will find it right in the first formatting line when running the blog entry in visual mode.
Just put your cursor at the end of the 5th or 6th line of your post and click on it.
Two tiny lines with a little blue square appear underneath your cursor position.
This is the “Read more” tag.
When running the post entry in html it will look this way:
You see the more-tag right in the middle of the formatting palette.
How does the post look like?
Just have a look at my latest blog entries on the very first page of my blog.
See nice and neatly shorten for the first page.
Very reader friendly. Not much to scroll down.
Just click on “Read more” and it will jump to the permalink page of the blog entry!
Another way to make the blog easier to handle for our readers.

Personally I like this method too. It really helps with the blog load times and still allows readers to get a little peek at what the post is about.
Great info Helen. 🙂 Personally, I am a fan of this method. I find some blogs that have 10 post on their front page really lag on the load time and this totally helps while still allowing readers to get a peek at what the posts are about. 🙂
i know what you mean … you get the feeling that you will explore the south pole earlier than the end of page … i am not a huge scrolling fan
so yes i am a fan of that method too
Great info. I don’t know if its better to do what you showed or just let the whole blog show. At least I know how to shorten it now if I would like to.
maybe it is a matter of personal taste and we are only talking about the main blogsite – permalink site is not affected by it.
That’s a great find, Helen. I have used evermore (a WP plugin) that cuts the post length down to a few lines automatically, so I don’t have to worry about that issue.

some – like this special blog – are wordpress hosted … so we can.t use plugins like that … but i will install it for my other sites
