Christmas is getting closer.
Today we are celebrating Advent 2nd.
I am going to start baking for Christmas.
My favorite Christmas Cookie Recipe is a heritage of my Mom.
It is called
Berliner Brot – Berlin Bread
A kind of Gingerbread, which you bake on a backing plate or tray.
To recalculate the metric system, you can use a converter http://southernfood.about.com/library/info/blconv.htm.
500 g Flour
375 g Sugar
250 g grounded Nuts (hazel nuts but almonds are great too )
125 g Butter
67,5 g Cacao
2 Tablespoon Milch
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
4 Teaspoon Backing powder
1/2 Teaspoon grounded Allspice
1 Teaspoon Cinamon
Mix everything well.
Usually I add more milk, to get the dough smooth.
You can also add other Spices, which are common for Christmas.
Personally I like cardamon very much.
Sometimes you can buy special Spice mixtures for Gingerbread. You can use that as well. I would recommend 1-2 Teaspoons.
Spread the dough on a backing tray – the one that comes with your oven.
Back it for about 20 Minutes at 200°C / 392 F.
When ready let it cool for a while.
Than ice the cake with a mixture of lemon juice and icing sugar.
Cut into small pieces, about a square inch.
Store in air tight tins.
I really don’t know how long it lasts.
Usually we eat it very quickly, since it is so delicious.
